Tired from the effort of breaking through the shell, the youngster rests, eyes closed, for about an hour.

Hatchlings are attracted to yellow, red and orange: the colors of their favorite foods. They obtain moisture by licking the wet leaves.

Notice the distinctive crest, visible from birth.

This egg, one of a clutch of 4, was laid at Kula Eco Park in Fiji in the main crested iguana display habitat.

After nine months natural incubation in the sandy floor substrate, all four eggs hatched.

Eggs are now incubated in vermiculite beds to avoid damage.
