The tiny Island sanctuary of Yaduataba lies 80 miles almost due North of Fiji's capital, Suva. The nearest land mass is Vanua Levu, Fiji's second largest Island. Despite the proximity, no crested iguana has ever been reported on Vanua Levu.

Yaduataba floats like a tiny cork in the vast Pacific. Crested iguanas may have witnessed the passing of Captain Bligh's long boat after the infamous mutiny on "HMS Bounty". If they did, the event had no impact on their isolation save to change the name of the waters surrounding their island refuge.

A tiny jewel in the Mamanuca Group, Monuriki is uninhabited save for the goat and dwindling iguana population. As the Southern most crested iguana site yet discovered, Monuriki may hold a vital gene pool. More research is needed on this tiny population which appears to be distinct from those on Yaduataba.
